The University of Bristol started life as University College, Bristol, in 1876, following a meeting held in the Victoria Rooms to found a centre for higher learning in the city of Bristol. Kenneth Ronald Lambert Hall was born in 1917, and was a noted biologist, zoologist and psychologist, particularly in the field of animal psychology. During World War II, he served in the Middle East and Germany from 1940 - 1945 as a Captain in the Royal Artillery.
